Friday June 19th 2020

At Alliance Française de Port-Vila

In partnership with Bred Bank and Ambassade de France au Vanuatu

La Fête de la Musique, what is it?

La Fête de la Musique is not a festival, it is more a popular and free event offering the opportunity to many amateur and professional musicians to express themselves. It is a chance to converse freely in music!

After a reflection on “music everywhere and concerts nowhere” and a study revealing that in France five million people (for the youths: one youth in two) play a musical instrument, la Fête de la Musique was created in 1982 by Jack Lang. It is set on a unique and symbolic date, June 21st, solstice day.

Addressing all audiences, celebrating live music in all its forms, open to every musician, amateurs and professionals, la Fête de la Musique has become within a few years one of the main French cultural events.

And in Vanuatu?

Every year, more than 100 countries celebrate la Fête de la Musique, including Vanuatu!

During its 26 previous editions, la Fête de la Musique has reached a very large audience in Port Vila and in the islands, and is now one of the “must see” of musical events each year.

See you for this 27th edition on Friday June 19th, 2020 on the Alliance Française stage.
